Call for papers

Grasping today’s theoretical and methodological diversity in the field of ethnic relations serves no better purpose than to improve one’s personal understanding of all its complexities. To this end, graduate students and new researchers alike play a key role in both apprehending and contributing to the field’s growing body of knowledge.

To facilitate this process, the Centre d’études ethniques des universités montréalaises (CEETUM) will hold its 14th Colloquium for Students and Recent Graduates on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, the 14th, 15th and 16th of March 2012, at Université de Montréal (Quebec, Canada). We invite graduate students and recent graduates whose research examines issues in ethnic relations to participate in this international colloquium, attended each year by almost one hundred participants. This would be a perfect opportunity for them to present their work in front of an audience composed of peers and specialists from various disciplines. Students are invited to propose an individual presentation or to set up a thematic session composed of several presentations around the same theme.

Individual and thematic session propositions have to be related to one or several of the four thematic axes that orient the CEETUM’s scientific activities and about which details can be found on the CEETUM’s website (http://www.ceetum.umontreal.ca):

1. Integration of immigrants: spatiality, economy and cohabitation

2. Education and ethnic relations

3. Languages, identities and intergroup relations

4. Religious plurality: social, political and legal issues

Moreover, presentations may also address the following themes: theories of ethnicity; citizenship and participation; intersectionality; cultural and artistic production. Proposals for papers or thematic sessions must be submitted no later than November 10th 2011 by filling out the PDF submission form available on the CEETUM website (http://www.ceetum.umontreal.ca), where you will also find the guidelines for your submission. Abstracts will be reviewed by a multidisciplinary scientific committee of graduate students and professors. All authors who have submitted a proposal will be contacted by January 20th 2012.
