2nd African American Language Conference

AAL in Popular Culture: Intersections among Language, Education, Music, Media & Sports.
November 2-3, 2010
San Antonio, TX

We would like to welcome you to the 2nd bienniel African American Language (AAL2) Conference in San Antonio. We invite you to San Antonio’s Riverwalk to engage in scholarship, mentoring, and networking about African American Language. This time, we will celebrate scholarship in African American Language and Pop Culture, including Education, Music, Media, and Sports. The conference will include a combination of invited speakers, anonymously reviewed papers and posters, and an open community forum on diversity and intersections of language use in the African American community.

The 2008 AAL1 conference in San Antonio resulted in the publication of African American Women’s Language: Discourse, Education, and Identity (Cambridge Scholars Press, 2009).

The AAL2 conference will immediately be followed by NWAV 39, which will be November 4-7, 2010, in the same location.

November 4-6, 2010. San Antonio, Texas

NWAV 39 will take place November 4-6, 2010, in San Antonio, TX at the conclusion of the second biennial African American Language Conference at the Hotel Contessa on the Riverwalk. The first full conference day will begin on November 4th. Each day will begin with a session of workshops at 8 am with conference presentations beginning at 10 am (including Thursday, November 4th).  The conference will end with the party on Saturday November 6th.
