GRITIM – Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona) is seeking to appoint a postdoc researcher with

advanced expertise in the field of immigration and diversity to work in the EU funded project Accept Pluralism.

Tolerance, Pluralism and Social Cohesion: Responding to the Challenges of the 21st Century in
Europe – ACCEPT PLURALISM

PROFILE
For this project GRITIM-UPF whishes to employ a doctor (or with a nearly completed PhD) in social
or political sciences able to do research in the Spanish context, write the project reports (in English)
and present the main findings at the local, national and international level. GRITIM-UPF is loooking
for a researcher who not only carries out the Spanish part of the Accept Project but is also interested in
developing his or her own research projects within the GRITIM team.

Brief description of GRITIM-UPF
GRITIM- UPF (Interdisciplinary Research Group in Immigration) is a multi-departmental group at
Universitat Pompeu Fabra made up of researchers from different disciplines who are interested in
aspects of innovation in research and management of change processes arising from human mobility
and immigration. The group’s main objectives are to promote theoretical and applied research related
to political and social agendas.

Brief description of the Accept Project
Accept Pluralism is a new project (2010-2013), funded by the European Commission under the
Seventh Framework Programme and coordinated by Anna Triandafyllidou (EUI). The ACCEPT
project questions whether European societies have become more or less tolerant recently, what
tolerance means in different countries but also in the same country under different circumstances, for
different issues and with regard to different minority groups (immigrant or native). These questions
are considered by looking at the challenges that cultural diversity brings in the development and
implementation of public policy in the field of education (Case study 1) and regarding political
participation and representation of minority groups (Case study 2).

Principal duties
– To explore the literature and public discourses about integration and multiculturalism, especially in
relation to educational and political challenges.
– To take primary responsibility for the identification, collation and preliminary analysis of a range
of publications and media in relation to the above topics.
– To identify and take primary responsibility for planning and carrying out qualitative interviews in
relation to the case studies.
– To contribute significantly to the analysis of the data/information collected.
– To contribute to the drafting of interim and final reports.
– To contribute to the writing of academic and other publications.
