Sessió 5. Dimecres 20 de març de 2013: Dra. Sonia Arbaci ‘(Ethnic) Residential segregation in European cities: Are welfare regimes making a difference?’, Bartlett School of Planning-University College London (UCL), amb la presentació de la Dra. Cristina López Villanueva.

Dr Sonia Arbaci is Lecturer in Spatial Planning (Bartlett School of Planning – University College London). European comparative studies and interdisciplinary studies have been her research interest, with a particular attention to (Southern) European cities. Her research focuses on ethnic residential segregation and immigration sit between a broader understanding of the different European housing systems and welfare regimes, and the impact of urban policies and regeneration programmes in relation to mechanisms of differentiation, and inequality. From October 2012 undertake a two year research project on ‘’DiverCities: Neighbourhood interventions, and social and ethnic mix: the tackling of urban inequalities’’ funded by the Marie Curie Programme (FP7 –PEOPLE Intra-European fellowship). The international scope of her research has resulted in several invitations as a guest speaker throughout Europe, collaborations in international networks and conferences (IMISCOE International Migration, Integration and Social Cohesion research network; International Metropolis, ENHR, ISA-RC21), seminar series and master courses (ASRO, KU Leuven, Belgium; Complutense University of Madrid and ETSAM, Spain; Sapienza 3 University, Rome, and Faculty of Architecture, Milan, Italy; Newcastle University and GURU, UK) and round table discussions on ethnic segregation, land policies, housing policies and affordability (Spanish Ministry of Housing; Municipality of Madrid – Housing Observatory).
